What are cookies?


A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers downloaded on the user's device when they access certain websites, with the target of storing and retrieving information about how they browse the site from that device.

Cookies allow the site, among others, to store and retrieve information about the surfing decisions and habits of the user.

Why do we use cookies?

Cookies, depending on their permanence, can be divided into Session or Permanent Cookies. The first ones expire when the user closes the browser. The second ones expire depending on when the objective for which they serve is done (for example, for the user to remain identified on the websites and services of) or when they are deleted manually.

Additionally, depending on their purpose, Cookies can be classified as follows:

User session cookies: are those used to enable the user to use his account as a client, and whose function is to keep the user identified, if he closes a service or web, the browser or computer and at another time or another day re-entering said service or web, will continue to be identified, thus facilitating their navigation without having to re-identify. This cookie that is generated only in the visit, will serve in next visits to anonymously identify the visitor. The main objectives pursued are:

  • Allow anonymous identification of browsing users through the “Cookie” (Identifies browsers and devices, not people) and therefore the approximate accounting of the number of visitors and their trend over time.
  • Identify anonymously the most visited content and therefore more attractive to users
  • Know if the accessing user is new or recurring.
